If you’re looking for the future, look no further than the past. That’s what we’ll be doing when we investigate the most stylish days in history. Last time it was Diddy’s epic white party. Today, we’re looking at our favorite looks from the ’55 Academy Awards.

With the Oscars just around the corner, we look back at one that might take the crown as the most stylish ever. Back in 1955, Marlon Brando won best actor and On the Waterfront took home best picture, but even those who didn’t receive any hardware deserved a trophy for their impeccable black tie attire. Sinatra killed it in a white-on-white shirt-and-tie combo, Rod Steiger sported an uncoventional grey shirt, Bogart rocked a shawl collar, Marlon kept it classic, and Cary Grant proved why he was and always will be the peak-lapel king of Hollywood
