Oscar Worthy Style: Inherent Vice">

The films nominated for the Academy Awards this year were all deserving across the board, but some of them had more style cred than others. So, we picked five movies with outstanding clothing, and outfitted their characters in our favorite gear from Spring-Summer 2015. First up, Inherent Vice and Larry “Doc” Sportello.

It’s not hard to see that this film has some serious costume direction and design. Everything about the clothing reads perfectly into the ’70s, and though that time is synonymous with hippies, it actually had a very diverse landscape of fashion. It’s more complicated than you might think. You see it play out in all the characters, but Doc was a particularly strong study in it. His wardrobe fit his personality to a T, and had plenty of enviable pieces (we’d kill for the green jacket). Things were slouchy, casual, and a little loose (something we’ve been seeing more of on runways). We found plenty of things that would work for Doc in 2015—it’s him, just slightly updated.
